How does our platform work?

Selling domain names

The basics of Tappaya.com are simple: sellers add their domains to our system, we automatically create a professional sales page and buyers can bid on the respective domains through that page. Think it's a good bid? Deal closed!

Putting domain names up for sale

Step 1: As a seller, you first create a free account (make sure you enter the correct details, as e-mail and phone number are verified!) and then add your domain names. This can be done by uploading a CSV file, or you can simply copy-paste them into a text field. At that point, your names are in our system, but not yet visible to potential buyers.

Step 2: At the provider where your domains are hosted (the so-called 'registrar'), you give us nameservers (ns1.tappaya.com and ns2.tappaya.com). This is nothing more than pointing your domain names to our system. To be clear: We cannot access your domain in any way and you retain full control over your domain names at all times.

Setting up our name servers is a mandatory step in using our platform: this way, we can establish that you are actually the owner of the domain names you offer for sale. Moreover, this is the only way we can create a sales page for your domain names.

Step 3: We automatically create a professional sales page for each of your domain names. For an example of this page, see www.tappaya.ventures. You manage your domain (set prices, delete etc.) in your own Tappaya account. There you will also find statistics and all leads received from potential buyers.

The pages are created immediately and the SSL certificate is also requested immediately, but depending on the registry, among other things, it takes a few hours to a day before all pages are fully operational. The 'name server check' in your account (after each domain) is automatically executed by our system, but you can also activate it manually if you wish.

Selling a domain name

Besides the sales page that we create for you, we also publish your domain name on Tappaya.com under 'domains for sale'. Potential buyers who land on your domain name (via Tappaya.com, via a search engine or via a type-in) will immediately see the sales page created for each of your domains. This page contains a form that can be used to send a message or place a bid. Of course, we also link to Tappaya.com for further information, so buyers know they are dealing with a reliable broker. Leads that come in via your sales pages in this way are forwarded directly to you on a 1:1 basis. We are not involved and do not filter responses.

Once you have received an acceptable offer (whether or not after several rounds of negotiations :-), you then have the option of completing the transaction yourself or using us to handle it via a secure escrow service. In practice, we see that buyers in particular (who often have not dealt with this before) need a reliable intermediary they can call. Our escrow service requires us to do the necessary manual work and this service is therefore paid for. For each transaction, we charge a non-refundable flat fee, which we seek your agreement on before the transaction is set up. Discuss with the buyer who bears the costs, or whether you share them, before approaching us. Learn more about our escrow service.
